SONAM KAPOOR AHUJA ON VEERE DI WEDDING NUMBERS: I COULDN’T HAVE ASKED FOR MORE

On Sonam Kapoor’s birthday, these picThe winds of change in the male-dominated world of box office are here. After Alia Bhatt-starrer Raazi, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s Veere Di Wedding has been doing well at the ticket counters.

Sonam, who will celebrate her 33rd birthday on Saturday, is over the cloud nine on the response to her film, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania.

But, this is not the first time a film starring her has scored impressive number at the box office. Her film Neerja not only recorded box office succes, but also got her a National Award and critical acclaim.

Calling Neerja a “turning point” in her career, she said, “The numbers it did at the box office gave me a lot of confidence and also made a difference to the way female-centric films are perceived by the film trade.”

When asked about the comparison with Raazi, and she said that Veere Di Wedding has a long way to go.

“I haven’t seen Raazi. But, I am only hearing good things about it. It has already done a business of Rs. 100 crores. Our Veere Di Wedding isn’t there yet. But, I hope it would be,” the Aisha actress said.

But, it’s not just the box office domination that keeps Sonam going, it is also her friends.

“Swara and I have been friends for five years. Working together in this film has only made us closer. Bebo’s family and my family have known each other for decades. I’ve grown up idolising her. Now, after Veere Di Wedding, she is a dear friend. I’ve grown fond of Shikha Talsania is too,” said Sonam.

When asked if her life changed in any way after marriage, she said, “My life has never been about just movies. I have always given equal priority to my social commitments. Nothing changes after marriage. I will work just as much as before. And my friends will remain in my life. Why are we even discussing this.”

The actress will be next seen in Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Sanju. Apart from Sanju, Sonam will be next shooting Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, where she will be sharing screen space with her father Anil Kapoor for the first time.
